We got a 4:00 start going to the X buoy on this day of 10 mph winds. No signs of life at the X so we kept going outside looking for anything. We found nothing so we came back to the X and took a marlin strike 1/2 mile from the buoy. This was a wild fish as it jumped towards the boat at first then out and around getting a big belly in the line. It took out over 500 yards of line off one of our new 130 tiagra reels. Then we got Mike in the chair and he did a great job of reeling that fish in. It only took about 35 minutes to get it to the boat, and then it came up nice and calmly,the way we like them to. Then I had to jump in the water to snap this photo, I only do this on flat days. Then we went down to the J buoy and caught 3 aku and one shibi. On the way in Charlie caught a 16 pound ono right outside the harbor. It was easy to get Mike, Charlie and Kaeo to eat eyeballs. These guys were fun to fish with, they did great. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got a 4:00 start on this day of 10 mph east wind going to the LL buoy. No strikes on the first pass, so on to the light line . The small aku and shibi were biting good but none of the bigger ones ever came up for us, so we trolled on down towards the X buoy and found a few ahi schools. We could see them breaking water but they did not bite. Back in the harbor everyone was a participant in the eyeball eating ritual, I like it. Aloha Capt Rusty

Jason and Bruce Forester caught 4 nice big 35-40 pound shibi.

Our day started at 4:00 going to the LL buoy on this day of 10 mph east winds. No strikes on the first pass, but on the second a small shibi grabbed a 7 inch lure on he corner. We went to the light line and started getting small aku and shibi. Then we ran the pink worm and we started getting big shibi, Jason battled the first one, then bruce reeled one in, its a lot of work on light line. We got 2 more and then we set up and trolled for home. On the way we hooked up a nice 200 pound marlin that took over half a spool of line out. Bruce did a good job of reeling on it but after a half hour fight it came off, we have to quit doing this hemo thing. Good going men . Aloha Capt Rusty

We got a 4:00 start on this day of 10 mph trades going to the X buoy for starts. No action at all at the X so we trolled on out to 30 miles outside the X and found a few open scholls of mahi but could only get one to bite for us. Then we went down to the J and got some baits there. No strikes on the way in. Ryan is becoming a regular with us, only a matter of time before we will get him his marlin. Aloha Capt Rusty

Our day started at 4:00 going to the X buoy on this day of 15 mph trades. Before we even got to the X we hooked and ono and got it. The X buoy is officially declared dead, no more any thing there. So we trolled on up from the X and at 8 miles away we took a screamer on the center that took out 3/4 of a spool of line before it stopped and went down. That is what an ahi will do and this was a big one. Joel did an excellent job of reeling it in. Then at about 20 yards out it came up and shook it's head and spit the hooks, bummer. We trolled on down towards the j buoy and took a marlin strike near an aku pile, but it only took 50 yards and came off. Then at the J it took awhile to get a bait, but we got an aku or two and had 2 out live when a nice sized marlin came up and ate one. It screamed out line jumping all the way and then on one last jump it came off, bummer again. In the harbor Joel joined in the eyeball ritual gladly. It was a pleasure to fish with Joel and Stacey. The Weisensteins, Danielle, Peggy, Mike and Lonnie caught 1 mahi, one ono and 4 shibi the biggest a 65 pounder on 50 pound test

We got a 4:25 start on this day of 15 mph east winds going to the X buoy. No slams on the first pass, so we caught small aku and shibi. Danielle hooked a nice 30 lbs. shibi on a small lure and did a great job of reeling it in. We did get a small ono on the way to the buoy. Then we set up and trolled out looking for anything and found nothing, so we went down to the J and Scot baited up 2 shibi one a 30 pounder and Mikes one a 65 pounder on 50 pound test no leader. While we had these fish on a big mahi came behind and Scot baited it up and Peggy got to reel it in, it was a 35 pounder. It took Mike so long to reel his fish up that a shark came around, Scot quickly hooked it up so that it would not bite Mike's shibi. We got the shibi and then Mike got to reel the shark in, We took pictures and cut it loose. These folks were a pleasure to fish with, and Peggy even had her big mahi mounted, that will look great. We got a 4:30 start on this day of 20 mph trades going to the j buoy. As we got close to the buoy we hooked an ono that went 34 lbs, before the sun even came up. Then we got small baits and ran two live no takers so we set up and trolled on outside. At 25 miles out we hooked a good sized marlin that took more than half a spool off our 130. Joe reeled on it for 15 minutes and it made a run and came off, bummer. we then went to the X buoy and Scot baited up 2 nice shibi, then it shut off so we went back to the J. Half way there we hooked a marlin and this one stayed on. Bill did a good job of angeling it and it came up dead, just the way we like it. At the J we caught an ono on our first pass then headed in. No eyeball eaters here. These guys did good. Aloha Capt Rusty

our day started at 4:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to the x buoy. We got no strikes on our first pass, then went to the light line and caught small aku and shibi. When we baited nobody came around so we trolled up and out from the buoy and hooked a 80 pound Blue Marlin about 5 miles from the X, Tony did a great job reeling in that one. Then we went down to the J buoy and Scot baited up 2 nice shibi Colette's one was a 40 pounder and Renee's was a 36 pounder, they did great. We also got an ono comming up to the J. Back in the harbor wtih just a bit of pressure I got everyone to join in the eyeball ritual, I like it. These were some fun people to fish with. Aloha capt Rusty

Stan Stevens, Joe Fox, Mark and Holly Strachan, Nathan Goddad, and Charlie Fukuhara got a workout catching 20 shibi 4 mahi and 4 ono for about 700 pounds of fish.

At exactly 4:00 AM we got underway on this day of 20 mph trades going to the X buoy. At 5:30 when Scot had only put 3 lures in the water, an ono took the line right out of his hand and hooked up, and one outrigger went too. We got them both nice big onos 34 and 28 pounds. At the buoy we took no strikes so we went to the light line and got small aku and shibi right away as usual. Then a pair of mahi showed up on our live baits and Scot hooked them both up. One more small mahi came around and we got it too. Then we started baiting and the big shibi came up in a real big way. Scot was hooking up 3 or 4 at a time and they were all 25-30 pounders. By 8:30 we had 2 bags full of fish and the bite had shut off. We caught a few more small ones and then set up and trolled on down to the J buoy. On our second pass there we got a nice ono. And on our third pass we got one more ono. Then on our way in we found an open school and got one mahi out of it. I almost for got to mention the big 72 pound shibi that Mark got at the X buoy on a squid lure. In the harbor I could only get Joe and Nathan to join me in eyeball pupus, Joe even did one of the eyes out of the 72 pounder. One hell of a great day of fishing, good going folks. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Forrest and Jim Pipkin and Matt and Tracy Hutcheson had fun catching one big barracuda 4 mahi and one ono.
|
We got a 4:00 start on this day of 25 mph trades going to the X buoy. On our first pass we hooked a really big mahi but it came off half way to the boat. Second pass we got a nice mahi, then we baited and got one small mahi, then it was jigging time. We caught small aku and shibi and ran two live but no more mahi came to play with us, so we trolled out and found an open school of mahi and got one big one out of it. Then on down to the J buoy and when we ran a live bait something kept chopping them in half. This was a job for the suicide rig and it worked great to nail a 40 pound barracuda. On the way in we got one more mahi in the blind. In the harbor Forrest and Jim were up eating fish eyes but not Matt or Tracy. It was a fun day. Aloha Capt. Rusty
