Jeremy Coddington, Mickey Keith, and Steve Manser caught 19 mahi and one 20 lbs. shibi for a action packed day.

We managed to get a 4:15 start going to the X buoy on this nice day of 20 mph trades. On our first pass as usual lately mahi came rushing in for the lures and we hooked 2 on lures, Scot then baited 4 more to keep the guys going for a while. Then we came back with bait only and got a few more each pass, they were even hooking up on long baits that were just dragging, not dropping, they were hungry. After we had about 12 mahi they quit coming around so we left, headed to the J buoy. On the way we took a strike from what had to be an ahi over 100 pounds, it took over 3/4 spool of line out in a big hurry. Then just as Steve started to reel it in it came off the hook, bummer. At the J we got 7 more mahi on bait to make one nice fat bag of fish. In the harbor Steve and Mickey were game to eat an eyeball pupu with me, good men. These guys all did real well. Aloha Capt. Bill Keith, Corey Harris, and Greg McCaul were kept busy reeling in 29 mahi and one big 50# spearfish
|
We took off at 4:30 going to the J buoy on this day of 25 mph trade winds. Our first pass we landed 6 mahi some on lures and some on bait. Then we baited up 2 more and caught some small aku and shibi. No more mahi were comming around so we took off going up to the X buoy. On the way we got 4 more mahi trolling. The x was slow at first but then the mahi started to show up and they were hungry. We had a few passes where we got 4 or 5 at a time, Scot was hooking them up left and right. We ended up with about 600# of fish. Back in the harbor Bill and Greg joined me in the ritual eyeball pupus to end one hell of a great day of fishing. Good going men. Robert Raymond, Capt Rusty, and Scot caught 16 mahi and 2 spearfish.

We got a 4:30 start to the X buoy on this day of 30 mph trades. Our first pass we got 4 mahi, all nice big ones. Then we baited up a few more and then they stopped showing up on the teaser and we went down to the J buoy. On the way we got a double spearfish and got them both. At the J we had to help another boat get their fan belt back on, that took 2 hours. Then we got some small aku and shibi, and Scot baited up 3 more mahi and one 20# shibi. It was a good day. Bob Gramann caught 24 nice big mahi all by himself, with a lot of help from Scot

We got a 4:30 start on this day of 25 mph trades that ended up being 30 mph trades in the afternoon going to the X buoy. Our first pass we took a 4 banger mahi and Scot baited up a few more for a total of 5. Then it was just two or three each time by the buoy on bait. They were hungry and not shy. Bob did a great job, as Scot kept him busy reeling fish in one after another. This was as good as it gets for mahi fishing. Then when they stopped coming we jigged up a live bait and then the mahi came behind again. While we had two on a big bully ate our teaser and hooked up, but one fish we had on 80 pound test crossed that line and before we could undo it the 80 cut of the 150 lbs. line with the bull on it. It was wild action. On our way in we took a striper strike but it only slammed the rigger and then followed for awhile but never hooked up. Then we took an ono strike and got that one a nice 15 pounder. And finally just outside the harbor we got a mahi strike and got it too. I could not get Bob to eat an eyeball but I tried. Bob said he was going to work out before he comes back to go again, he did get the deluxe work out today. Good going Bob it was pleasure taking you fishing. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Chuck Robbins, Jamie Davis, Mark Buelow, Shane Dietterick caught 15 mahi and 10 shibi, a busy day of fishing.

We departed at 5:00 on this rainy day of 25 mph trades going to the J buoy. Our first pass we took a triple mahi and Scot baited up a few more to get five. Then on the light line we were getting small aku and shibi every pass, but no more mahi. So we went down to the II buoy and took a triple mahi there and Scot again baited up three more for a 6 count on the first pass. We then put the light line out and got some more small shibi. and one more mahi, then it was time to go back to the J buoy for the afternoon shibi bite there. That was the hard part uphill all the way there, but we did find a open school of mahi and got one out of that. At the J we did some jigging with our squid jigs and the 8-10 pound shibi were whacking them good. It is a visual thing, as the fish come right up to the surface to grab the lure. On our way in we took a striped marlin strike just as we were leaving the bouy, but it came off 10 yards from the boat, bummer. In the harbor only Jamie and Shane joined me in eyeball pupus. These guys go with us alot and it is always fun to take them out, good going guys. Aloha Capt Rusty

It was another day of 30 mph trades and we got a 5:00 start going to the X buoy. Have I ever mentioned how good the fishing can be just before a full moon, well here is the perfect example, one day before the full moon and it was going off at all the buoys. We got about 20 mahi at the X then went down to the J buoy and got another bag full of mahi and shibi, mostly all on bait of course. It was wild action. It was not uncommon to get 8 or 9 fish in one pass. As fast as Scot and Dino could get one fish in and get a bait on the hook and put it back out it would hook up another one, they were hungry. It ended up being a long day as we got back to the harbor at 7:30, that’s why we only have a photo of one nice fish, but you can see two of our three full bags of fish. Our total weight was around 1200 lbs. with 1000 of that in mahi. That is our most weight of mahi ever. One hell of a great day of fishing. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Scot,and Rusty Spencer, and Dino Miranda went holoholo and caught 16 mahi and 10 shebie for about 550 lbs of fish
|
On this windy day of 30 mph trades we left at 5:00 going to the J buoy. We were first and only boat to go to the buoy and took one mahi strike on our first pass. Then on to the light line and we got some aku and small ahi and ran 2 live aku. We saw a marlin looking at our aku once but it did not get interested enough to eat it. The mahi on the other hand did get interested and we would get one or two when they would show up behind the boat. The tuna were a bit hard to get to go at first, but they started to come up for the bait later in the day. There was never a dull moment, between hooking fish going down hill to the bucking bronco ride going back up to the buoy it was wild. We like it when it is rough like this, the fish bite good and we have the whole buoy to ourselves. It was worth it to not go ride our dirt bikes today. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Dennis Shrewsbury, Richard Flynn, Mike, and Delanie Snead, Gammall Perez, and John Allen caught 11 mahi one 20 lbs ahi and Mike got a 315 lbs marlin for a great day

We got a 5:30 AM start on this day of 30 mph trades going to the J buoy. We got one mahi on our first pass and 4 on the second pass. It was loaded with mahi. We caught a few aku and ran 2 as live bait. It wasn’t long before a marlin came behind us and took our aku and swallowed it deep. It never jumped as it ran out 300 yards of line. Mike then did a great Job of pulling her back to the boat in about 40 minutes, and she came up dead the way we like them to come to the boat. We pulled her in and went back to the buoy and started getting more mahis. We did one bait pass and got 3 mahi and one 20 lbs ahi. Then another marlin grabbed our aku but let it go, this buoy was hot. Then they wanted to go in early so we did. In the harbor I managed to get John to eat an eyeball pupu. These folks handled that rough ocean real well, good going guys. Aloha Capt. Rusty

Al, and Betsy Robin, Paul Robin, and Hall Danon had fun catching a lot of ahi.

We got underway at 5:55 going to the J buoy on this day of 25 mph trades. We were the 5th boat to the buoy so no trolling strikes for us. On the light line the small aku and ahi were hooking up every pass. Then Paul got the first bigger ahi on a worm, it was a nice 20 pounder. Then Al got one about 15 pounds on a clark spoon. All was going well until the porpoise showed up and spoiled the party. Scot put on a show by teasing them with saba right up to the back of the boat, where eventually they would take it from him and eat it. Since the big kids had taken over the pool we set up and trolled for home, on the way we hooked up another 20 pound ahi 3 miles from the harbor. On the pier when it was fish cutting time I could only get Hall to join me in an eyeball pupu. We also saw some whales coming in and some on the way out, soon they will be going back up north. We got a 5:40 start to the LL buoy on this day of light easterly winds. We were first to the buoy and got mahi on each pass for the first 4 times by the buoy. Then we went to the light line and started getting 4-9 pound aku and ahi every time we went past the buoy, it kept us busy. Every once in a while a mahi or two would follow our live bait and Scot would bait them up. In the end we had almost a full bag, or about 400 pounds of fish. One heck of a nice day of fishing.
