Internships
The Internet Education Foundation (IEF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public and policymakers about the potential of the Internet to promote democracy, communications, and commerce. Selected interns will be involved in two of the IEF's current initiatives: GetNetWise, a national child online safety initiative, and the activities of the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee.
Primary responsibilities include: planning Internet policy forums for Congressional staff, creating materials for the netcaucus.org and GetNetWise.org Web sites, and maintaining contact databases. Responsibilities will require interns to perform event planning duties and engage in online promotional activities. Interns working for IEF will have the opportunity to interact with Internet industry leaders, policy makers, and prominent online advocates. Interns will make substantive contributions and edits to the content of a major Web site, and will have a role in determining the direction of a project encompassing many of the Internet community's most prominent corporations and nonprofit organizations.
Valuable skills include:
- Solid writing ability
- Basic knowledge of HTML and of the Internet
- Editorial/layout experience
- Interpersonal skills
- Interest in Internet public policy is essential
Start dates are negotiable. IEF asks for a minimum commitment of twenty hours a week, but can accommodate class schedules. Interns will be paid on an hourly basis and can also receive class credit. For more information, please visit the IEF Web site at http://www.neted.org/.
