Located in the
eastern region, Chantaburi is a busy
commercial city, famous for its gem industry and
durian plantations. It is also a historically
important city as it used to be a site of border
skirmishes between the Thais and the French who
once occupied the city from 1893 to 1904. The
province is also blessed with verdant tropical
forest which provides many scenic waterfalls and
nature trails. Quiet fishing villages and
deserted beaches are worth visiting.
Chinese-influenced temples in downtown section
are also of interests.
