Destinations Guide to Selangor
The state's popularity among tourists lies in its wide range of natural, manmade, historical and cultural attraction. Places of interest in the state include:

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque: The state mosque is a magnificent architectural winder. Its mammoth blue dome, one of the largest in the world, is the first imposing feature that will catch the visitor's eyes. The mosque also has the tallest minarets in the world at 142.3 meters. It features a design that incorporates traditional Islamic and contemporary Malay styles.

Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Agricultural Park: Situated on the northern fringe of Shah Alam, this 1,258 hectare park is Malaysia's first agricultural park. It offers a glimpse of Malaysia's agricultural resources such as oil palm, rice, rubber, cocoa, coffee, coconut and fruit within cool surrounding. Other attractions in the park include spice, ornamental, mushroom, orchid, bamboo and cactus gardens, dams, a suspension bridge, a bird and deer park. Bicycles are available for hire at the park between various spots within the sprawling grounds on weekends. There are also facilities for camping out, or chalets for overnight visitors.

Batu Caves: Located 13 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves is a popular tourist attraction, particularly during the Hindu festival of Thaipusam which falls in late January each year. The 272 steps leading up to the main cave provide a challenging climb for old and young alike.

Kuala Selangor Nature Park: The Kuala Selangor Nature Park covers more than 200 hectares of secondary shrubs, wetlands, inter-tidal mudflats and mangrove swamps. It is a world-renowned bird sanctuary, with about 160 species record here. It features hides, paths, watchtowers, and boardwalks to enable visitors to view the variety of flora and fauna. Accommodation is available to those keen to experience the natural surrounding.

Kuala Selangor Fireflies: The quiet village of Kampung Kuantan is the site of the largest firefly colonies in the world. The nocturnal tours are extremely popular, with boats hired at the Kampung Kuantan jetty. The skilled local oarsmen make this experience a memorable and unforgettable one.

Pulau Ketam: Literally translated as "Crab Island", Pulau Ketam is located 10 kilometers west of Port Klang. The rustic fishing village attracts visitors because of its unique stilt-village where wooden board streets are just five feet across and traffic consists largely of pedestrians and bicycles. The attractions here include boat tours to aquatic farms raising fish, jelly fish, crab, and shrimp. The island is also popular for its seafood restaurants.

Pulau Carey: Located just off the Selangor coast south of Port Klang, Pulau Carey or Carey Island is home to the Mah Meri aboriginal community. Although they have been assimilated into modern life and work in the nearby plantations and farms, the Mah Meri people have retained their culture and way of life. Apart from exhibitions of their traditional dances and music, the Mah Meri are particularly known for their votive cultures, fashioned from a kind of swamp hardwood known as "Nyireh Batu".

Theme Parks: Selangor is a theme park wonderland. Its theme parks offer hours of fun-filled excitement and thrills for the family. The Sprawling Sunway Lagoon located close to the modern Subang Jaya township is the country's first water theme park. Its facilities include a comprehensive range of water sport, theme rides, amusement and recreational facilities. Mines Wonderland is another family-oriented theme park located in Sungai Besi, south of Kuala Lumpur on the fringes of a huge lake, once the site of the world's largest open cast mining. Its main attraction is the dazzling musical fountains and multi-colored laser show held at night. Other attractions include a Snow House, rides and amusement facilities, and an indoor theme park with a range of snow-based attractions.

The Royal Gallery: The Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Royal Gallery in Klang, touted as a landmark heritage site, was first opened to public on 18 November 2000. Inspired by His Majesty Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah himself, the gallery marked the eventual fulfillment of His Majesty's dream. The inception of this gallery began as a persona; endeavor by the royal couple to share His Majesty's collection of priceless royal heirlooms, artifacts, and gifts from his subjects and foreign dignitaries.

Bagan Lalang Beach: Bagan Lalang Beach is poised to be a major tourist spot in Sepang of Selangor given the fact that it is closed to the country's new airport, KLIA. Experience the quiet and tranquil surrounding with friends and family members. This beach is well known fro its "ikan bakar" or barbequed fish. Restaurants that serve various fish and other seafood dishes are opened till late night to cater for the ever-increasing number of tourists.
