Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep my existing phone number?
Yes. There is a one-time fee of $5.00 per batch to switch numbers to Mercury Network.

How long does it take to start service?
Dedicated voice service typically takes 30 business days to install and turn up. You will have full use of your service through your existing provider until your service is transferred.

Will there be an interruption when the switch takes place?
No. The switch from your existing provider to Mercury Network should be completely transparent.

How is long distance billed?
When you choose Mercury Network for your long distance service, long distance charges appear on your regular Mercury Network bill. Calls within the United States are billed in six-second increments with an 18 second minimum. Calls outside the United States may be different, with up to a 60 second minimum and up to 60 second increments thereafter, varying by location. If you choose a different long distance carrier, they will bill you directly.

What extra charges will you add to my bill?
We include extraneous charges, such as Universal Service Fund, 911 Contributions, Local Number Portability, and State and Federal Access, in your monthly service charge. These charges can add $10.00 or more to the bottom line cost of other providers. Only Michigan Sales Tax, 6%, and Federal Excise Tax, 3%, are added to your bill.

What is the 'Unlimited Local Calling' option?
With Unlimited Local Calling, you are not charged $0.05 for each local call you make. This option is beneficial to companies who place many local calls each month. This feature must be placed on all lines if ordered; it cannot be installed selectively.

What is the 'Unlimited IntraLATA Calling' option?
With Unlimited IntraLATA Calling, you are not charged long distance when calling anywhere in your LATA, usually your entire area code, and in some places, multiple area codes. This, effectively, makes your local calling area much larger and cuts down on long distance charges. We can provide you with a LATA map upon request.

What is the 'Local IntraLATA Exchanges' option?
Choosing this option will provide you with a local number in every market we serve within the LATA. This allows people nearly anywhere in the LATA to call you using a number local to them so that they do not need to pay long distance to call you. It can also be used to relieve toll-free inbound charges.

What is the 'Local Exchanges State-wide' option?
Choosing this option will provide you with a local number in every market we serve within the state. This allows people nearly anywhere in the state to call you using a number local to them so that they do not need to pay long distance to call you. It can also be used to relieve toll-free inbound charges.
