Training and Information
I don’t handle protected health information. Do I really need training?
EVERYONE listed above needs to be trained, even if they don’t directly
interactive with protected health information. This is because anyone
in these environments can have incidental contact with protected
health information or can encounter violations of HIPAA and so needs to
know what to do in those instances.
How can I print out a certificate proving I’ve taken the training?
The Privacy Officer will keep a record of your completion.
What is the deadline for HIPAA training?
Everyone must have completed the HIPAA training course by April
14, 2003 and new employees must complete training 30 days from
hire date.
Will I ever need retraining for HIPAA?
Yes, if you change jobs you must learn the new policies and procedures
for the new job.
Do I also have to take the UNC School of Medicine HIPAA training?
No, you only have to train once.
How long does the online training course take?
Most people are able to complete the course in 15 to 20 minutes.
If you need to stop before you finish you can save your work and
complete the course in another session.
