Just returned from a visit to Cabelas Outfitters newest store just opened at the intersection of interstate 78 and PA 61 just outside Hamburg, PA at exit 29B. Sited on a hill immediately adjacent to I-78, it has easy access from just about anywhere along the Eastern seaboard via I-80, the PA Turnpike, I-81 and I-95, to name a few. Crowds are large on this, the grand opening week, with one employeed claiming over 100,000 visitors on 10/4 and 10/5 alone !
I was truely impressed with the ambiance of this store. Lots of nice warm wood, real stone work and huge open spaces and high ceilings yield a feeling of warmth and comfort without being confined. One can spend hours just admiring a truely stunning collection of mounts wherever you look combined with amazing dioramas depicting everything from chipmunks to a full size african elephant in natural settings. Add to this a full size Piper Cub on floats drifting overhead, a resturant, shooting gallery, and a truely awesome display of collectors firearms in a private gallery and you begin to see this isn't just another sportings goods store. No matter your sport, hobby or inclination you can find something to study, admire or buy here.
For travelers there's a separate parking lot for trucks, another for RVs complete with dump station. A kennel, and a horse corral are among the amenities/services provided. In three hours of rapid touring we only visited about a third of the displays and retail stocks on two levels, which certainly furnishes adequate reason to return. Look for the new store to be featured as part of the Stihl Timbersports tour. I was told TV crews and the roadies were due to arrive 10/ 9 to set up for an event 10/11 and 10/12. >Jeff
