Oak Island Lighthouse 10K Run/Walk

2002 Winners
2002 Run Winners - Missy White, Wilmington, NC
and David Bice, Fort Bragg, NC

The Oak Island Lighthouse 10K offers runners and walkers a challenging course with unique and breathtaking views. The event will begin with a "slight" incline as it crosses the Oak Island Bridge. The bridge is over a mile long. You will find it difficult to match the view of the Intracoastal Waterway and coastal marshland seen from the bridge. The course continues to visually delight participants as it winds through neighborhoods of sprawling oak trees and Yaupon Hollies, and then suddenly opens up to the beach, ocean and the sounds of seagulls. During the last segment of the course, participants will find encouragement as the Oak Island Lighthouse stands before them, beckoning them to the finish.

The Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce sponsors the 10K. The Chamber has enlisted the assistance of the Wilmington Roadrunners for technical support to ensure the participants a professional and fun event. The 2003 event will take place on March 29, 2003 at 9 a.m. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female, and in each age group. The awards are a print of the Oak Island Lighthouse by local artist Ricky Evans of the Ricky Evans Gallery.

The Oak Island Lighthouse 10K is held on Oak Island, 45 minutes southeast of Wilmington, NC and one hour north of Myrtle Beach, SC.
