This is my own site, so it has had the full treatment on an ongoing
basis for roughly a year and I'm still finding new ways to "tweak" it a
little higher. The list of search terms for which it appears in #1 spot
on Google is lengthy. The site is currently receiving more than 200 visitors
a day on average. Test it out yourself using any search terms you think
might be used to look for a B&B or other accommodation in Courtenay,
or Vancouver Island, or British Columbia, or Canada. For the search term
"B&B" the site comes up #5 in the world. Of course, the more specific
to the location and type of accommodation the search is, the more often
it will appear as #1.

This is an example of the results of my search engine optimization work,
followed by links management and monthly maintenence. The existing website
was bringing in very little traffic. A rough and quick search engine optimization
job had been done but it was quite insufficient to get the website anywhere
near high enough in search results to garner any search engine traffic.
This, unfortunately is usually all you get when you hire someone who specializes
in website design to give you a search-engine-ready website.

Note- this site is competing for all the same search terms as the Copes
Islander B&B site which occupies the #1 spot above it in each of the
searches listed ( except the last where it occupies #6 ). It can only attain
#1 by knocking my own site down to #2, which is not an accomplishment I
am aiming for.

This is an example of an "Out of Nowhere to the Top" project begun in
April 2003. The 'guaranteed' results have been obtained and exceeded, but
I'm still working at pushing it further and expanding the number of top
position search terms in order to obtain more traffic for the site.
This site is now obtaining top five positioning on Google for a good
range of search terms.

Just submitted to the search engines for indexing
on Sept 20/03. If you're interested in watching a site come out of nowhere
and move up the ranking 'charts', keep an eye on this one. A two page site
created in 2002, this website has been languishing on the web for over
a year. It had not been made search engine ready, and neither had it been
submitted for indexing. Needless to say, it's owners have seen very little
business through the internet. Look for at least some first page results
as soon as it's indexed ( Google seems generally to index properly submitted
and search engine readied sites within three weeks ), then watch as the
work procedes to push it to the top.
update: Sept. 29. Site indexed by Google
on or before Sept 27.

The work to build this to a wider range of top
of the page results will likely take some months.
update: Sept. 30. Great news! The page
has been re-indexed already and the results of the first "tweaking" efforts
in response to the initial showing are very evident. Google has the site
on it's fast (48 hr) re-indexing list rather than the monthly one. This
means the changes and additions to the site made on an on-going basis will
be much quicker to influence the site's position in the search results.

update: Oct 11. A setback. Google appears
to be in the midst of a major re-indexing and results have reverted to
an earlier cache. The initial improvements do not appear for the moment.
We'll have to wait for the dust to settle on the re-indexing to regain
the improved position.
update: Nov 6. Google appears to be referring
now reliably to it's newest cache of the site and it's coming up solidly
on the first page for quite a few searches. There are some improvements
over the earlier results above.
