Christmas is perhaps the best time of year to visit the North Carolina
coast. The average air temperature is 59.4 degrees. In a celebration of
this wonderful weather, the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of
Commerce sponsors a festival - Christmas By
The Sea. We invite you to consider decking the halls with local
mistletoe and seashell ornaments while eating oyster stuffing and
listening to the laughing gulls outside your beach cottage. The festival
is a collection of events sponsored by many community organizations
stretching three weekends. The first weekend is a hometown parade and a
tour of homes on Oak Island. The second weekend is the Southport
historic home tour, lighted boat parade (flotilla), choral concert and the downtown
merchants extend their hours. The third weekend usually includes a band
concert and children's activities.
