CROATIA and ADRIATIC SEA

Zadar, Biograd, Kornati, Rogoznica, Dubrovnik, Pula

Croatia is bordered by Italy on the West/across the Adriatic Sea - Slovenia & Hungary on the North - Serbia/Yugoslavia on the East - Bosnia/Herzegovina on the South.
Most of the west coast is on the Adriatic Sea which is one of Europe's main beach/sea tourist destinations. Croatia has three geographically distinct landscapes - Mountains mostly in the North and inland from the Adriatic Sea - Coastal in the West - Plains in the eastern third of Croatia.
The tourist industry is very diverse offering sailing/diving/beach activities on the seaside -climbing /hiking /health resorts in the mountains.
The Croatian coastline is perfect for sailing holidays. With so many islands and small ports, you can stop as many times as you like or sail for as long as you wish.
Croatia has an amazing 5,800km of coastline, of which 4,000km belong to islands, cliffs and reefs.(Zlarin, Zirjz, Skradin, Vodice, Primosten, Drenik, Trogir, Split, Milna, Stari Grad, Hvar/ Palmezana, Rogac, Rogoznica).

Climate
The climate is Mediterranean along the Adriatic coast (warm dry summers, mild winters) with 2,600 hours of sunlight on average yearly (one of the sunniest coastlines in Europe) and continental in the interior (hot summers, cold winters with snow).

Seasons
Low season : from October to April

Misc
Electricity : 220 V
Currency : The Croatian currency is the kuna, which is divided into 100 lipas. The kuna is overvalued but is a stable currency. The current rate of exchange stands at $1=6 kunas.
The telephone code for Croatia is 385.

The health service is of a good standard. You have to pay for seeing a doctor or being treated in a hospital. Certain countries such as European countries have reciprocal medical arrangements whereby, in principal, you should not have to pay for any emergency treatment. It is therefore useful to wave you passport first and mention this.

Qualifications
To charter a sailing yacht in Croatia it is necessary for one crew member to have sailing certificate or licence. If such document is not required in your country a reference from a yacht club verifying the competence of the skipper is acceptable. All you need to do is provide the base with the necessary information and all formalities will be dealt with for you.
