DSL For Breckenridge, Colorado High Speed DSL Internet Access for Breckenridge, Colorado
Frequently Asked Questions About DSL

What is DSL?
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is broadband (high speed), 24/7 internet access for homes and businesses. DSL uses existing telephone lines to connect your computer(s) to the internet.

Can I use my existing phone line, or do I need to order another?
No, you cannot use your existing phone line. SDSL requires a dedicated phone line, so your current phone line is not used. Your installation charges and monthly rate covers the cost of the dedicated phone line. You do not need to order a second phone line or pay extra for the dedicated phone line.

What additional software / hardware do I need to use DSL?
No additional software is required to use DSL internet service. The only additional hardware you need to provide, besides your computer, is called a Network Interface Card (NIC), sometimes called an Ethernet card. Most computers come with a NIC card, it is the plug in the back of your computer that looks like a big phone jack. If your computer does not have a NIC card, you will need to purchase and install one. You can do this yourself, or FastLink can provide you with additional networking services, purchasing the correct NIC card and installing it for you.

Can I have more than one computer hooked up to DSL?
Yes. The DSL modem has 4 ethernet ports built in, so that no additional hardware is required to connect up to 4 computers to the internet at the same time. The internet connection is shared between them. You can do this yourself, or FastLink can provide additional networking services for you at the time of installation and set this up for you. We can also provide additional networking services which allow you to connect as many computers as you need to your DSL internet service.

Some people tell me that DSL is not available in Breckenridge. Is that true?
No, that is not true. DSL has been available in Breckenridge for quite some time. We currently have a DSL connection in our offices in Breckenridge, and so do others. There are distance requirements that must be met in order to receive DSL service, and we recommend filling our our Online Availability Request Form to see what services are available for your location.

Are my upload speeds the same as my download speeds?
Yes. We offer SDSL, which provides the same speeds for uploading and downloading. ADSL does not provide this.

How long do I have to wait for installation?
The contract you sign allows a window of 50 days for the installation. Our experience has seen most installations done within 2 - 3 weeks.

How can I compare my current internet connection to the speed of DSL?
A good way to compare speeds is to check your current speed against the DSL package choices available. Click here to see what your current speed is.
