The Village would like to congratulate the new Mayor of Bald Head Island, Larry Lammert and the new Mayor Pro Tempore, Andy Sayre. The Village Council elected Larry and Andy to these position at the November 14th Council Meeting.

The Village was granted a variance from the Coastal Resource Commission in October to expand the existing sandbag revetment on South Beach. The Village has contracted with Island Contracting to complete the project. We would like to advise our citizens that work will be in progress on Saturdays so do not be alarmed if you see construction taking place.

The fiscal year 2002-2003 audit is complete. The Village brought in over $480,000 received in accommodations tax revenue, all of which goes to the beach capital project fund for beach stabilization. The Village Tax Collector, Heather Hardee had a tax collection rate of 99.6% which is well above the state average of a 94% collection rate. Overall the audit proved the Village had another prosperous year with no findings of misappropriations.

Renewal notices for the Creek Access spaces have been mailed out. Due to the large number of citizens on the waiting list the Village is currently looking into possibly adding some additional rental spaces. If we find this project feasible the citizens on the waiting list will have the first opportunity to rent the spaces.

Village Hall will be closed December 24th through December 26th for the Christmas Holiday and January 1st for the New Year Holiday. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
