We are talking about the telecom third generation. With this new technology we will be able to surf in the internet and watch TV on our mobiles. The main  problem of  this technology is that it is very complex and the telecom companies believe it will not be ready before the 2002. 

Japanese, instead, have create a simpler system called i-mode.The date transmission of this system is based on the http protocol, using the COMPACT-HTML the first version of the Html, with a speed of 9600 bps.

The ì-mode has been realized trough NTT DoCoMo technology. In Europe, instead, the different Telecom companies are trying to find a compromise between their different technologies.
