INDIAN CULTURAL BUS ADVENTURE

Visit the San Andreas Fault and an authentically recreated replica of a Cahuilla Indian Village, which was once a major food-gathering area. The abundance of Mesquite and palms provided a substantial source of food for the local Indians. You'll learn how they lived, hunted and used desert plants for food, clothing, construction, implements, weapons, and medicine.

Relive the Indian culture and customs from birth to death as you visit each "kish," or dwelling. Learn about the ceremonies for naming, passage to adulthood, and marriage. Relax by pools of cool water as your guide shows you numerous desert plants the Indians used for food and medicine, along with weapons and tools of the era. A short walk from the village you will see an authentic Metate', one of the largest ever found in North America.

LOST LEGENDS OF THE WILD WEST BUS ADVENTURE

Visit the San Andreas Fault and relive legends and history from a colorful and rowdy by-gone era. This adventure offers an inside look at the settlers who first ventured into this seemingly harsh and barren land in search of their freedom and fortunes. Hear the legends of Peg Leg Pete, Matt Reilly, Johnny Lang, The Rose of Peru Mine, and the Lost Horse Mine. Visit an old mining camp and explore a replica of an old mine, equipped to look just as it would have in the 1870's. You'll learn about old mining techniques, and look into the future of mineral and rock mining.

Outlaws and bad guys have always been a part of the old west. Join in the fantasy as your group encounters Black Bart, Peg Leg Pete, and other crusty characters that lurk around these parts. Hang on to your valuables and enjoy this fun and entertaining wild west show – all based on the "true facts of them thar hills."

INDIAN CANYONS BUS ADVENTURE
WITH AND WITHOUT HORSEBACK RIDING (3-4 hours)

Join Desert Adventures to explore the Indian Canyons by foot or horseback. Your adventure begins the moment you board your luxury bus for a fully narrated valley tour in route to the Indian Canyons. Our first stop will be Andreas Canyon where horses are waiting if you have any riders. This beautiful trail ride will go from Andreas Canyon to Murray Canyon and back. Hikers will spend some time in Andreas Canyon, and then visit Palm Canyon.

Palm Canyon is one of the great beauty spots in Western North America. Its indigenous flora and fauna, which the Cahuilla peoples so expertly used, and its abundant Washingtonia Filifera (palm trees), are breathtaking contrasts to the stark, rocky gorges and barren desert lands beyond. A moderately graded, paved foot path winds down into the canyon for picnicking near the stream, meditating, exploring, hiking or horseback riding. While in Palm Canyon, visit the Trading Post for hiking maps, refreshments, Indian art and artifacts, books, jewelry, pottery, baskets, weavings and conversational cultural lore.

Andreas Canyon offers contrasting greens of magnificent fan palms and more than 150 species of plants within a half-mile radius beckon the desert-weary traveler to this lush oasis. A favorite scenic foot trail leads through the canyon, passing groves of stately skirted palms, unusual rock formations (some containing Cahuilla Rock Art) and the perennial Andreas Creek, where one can still see the bedrock mortars and Metates' used centuries ago for preparing food. This tranquil setting is excellent for photography, bird-watching or a picnic at one of the tables along the trail.

Murray Canyon is an easy hike south from Andreas Canyon. Good foot and equestrian trails lead to beautiful recreational spots among the many palm trees. Peninsula Big Horn Sheep (an endangered species), wild ponies and other wild animals still roam the high ground above the canyon and can be seen by the lucky visitor. Being less visited, Murray Canyon has its own secluded beauty; and at least one known endangered species of bird, the Least Bells Vireo, is known to nest here.
