Tools that filter other categories of material
Many tool companies have developed additional or different categories of material for which their products can be set up to filter or block access.
Remember that designation of such a site is made by a company whose values may be different from your own. Visit the company's Web site, seek out reviews, and ask about the criteria for determining what sites are placed in these categories.
(In order to be clear, we have put all of the "sexually explicit" categories into our "filters sexually explicit material" chart. Some companies describe what they filter as sex, obscenity, pornography, nudity, or some similar term. We have not made distinctions among those categories, and we think that most of these companies mean approximately the same thing with these terms.)
We have identified tools that limit access to information in the following categories:
Abortion Advocacy, Abusive Behavior by Others, Activist Groups, Adult Language, Advertising, Advertising for Adults, Alcohol, Alternative Journals, Anarchy, Art, Bomb, Broadcast Media, Cartoon Violence, Chat Rooms, Cults, Drugs, File Transfer, Free Mail, Free Pages, Gambling, Game Sites, Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual Lifestyles, Gothic, Government, Gross, Hacking, Hate Groups, Humor, Illegal Activity, Immoral Activities, Investments, Job Search, Leisure Activities, Lingerie, Message/Bulletin Boards, Militancy, Movies, MS Macro Files, Murder, New Age, Nudity, Obscenity, Occult, Online Auction, Online Games, Personal Ads, Personal Information, PICS Ratings Adult Topics, Politics, Popup Windows, Pornography, Profanity, Racism, Religion, Satanic, School Cheating Information, Search Engines, Self-Help, Sex/Acts, Sex/Attire, Sex/Nudity, Sex/Personals, Sexual Education (multiple levels), Sexually Oriented, Sexually Predatory, Shopping, Sports, Stock Quotes, Suicide, Swimsuits, Tasteless, Tobacco, Transgender, Travel, Unwholesome Activities, Usenet, Violence, Weapons
