How ISPs are Helping -- Many Internet and online service providers also offer safety solutions by selling or including these tools with their services and adopting "Acceptable Use Policies", or "Terms of Service Agreements".

Web Ratings Systems -- Many companies that produce Web sites voluntarily rate and label their sites, using a system knows as "PICS" (Platform for Internet Content Selection).

Internet Issues in the Community -- When children use the Internet in school or in a library, their experiences will be different than when they are at home. Tools that filter other categories of material

Many tool companies have developed additional or different categories of material for which their products can be set up to filter or block access.

Remember that designation of such a site is made by a company whose values may be different from your own. Visit the company's Web site, seek out reviews, and ask about the criteria for determining what sites are placed in these categories.

(In order to be clear, we have put all of the "sexually explicit" categories into our "filters sexually explicit material" chart. Some companies describe what they filter as sex, obscenity, pornography, nudity, or some similar term. We have not made distinctions among those categories, and we think that most of these companies mean approximately the same thing with these terms.)
