Types of placement

One-year - you will stay with us for a year and probably sample work and gain experience in different areas of our business. You would be paid a salary according to your qualifications, experience and job level. We hope that you would gain some valuable insight into how the Met Office works, as well as gaining experience that you could offer to other potential employers once you graduate.

One- to three-month - Most commonly accepted during Summer vacation, we welcome applications from graduates and undergraduates wishing to spend their holiday working in a pleasant environment gaining valuable, transferable skills as well as receiving a reasonable salary.

Outstations - Some frontline stations offer work experience. Requests should be sent to the Manager at the station where the placement is required. Contact the Careers and Placements Co-ordinator for advice about your nearest station, or you may find us in your local phone book.

If you are in years 10 or 11 at school, please visit the education pages for details on work experience.
