Dazzling new ways of viewing plants will be on display in the Garden’s galleries when two artists exhibit their latest work from January 17 to April 4.
Massachusetts artist Ann Parker calls her exhibit "Botanical Metamorphics." Bright, translucent images result from her experimental technique of passing light directly through fruits, flowers and vegetables onto color-sensitive paper.
"I am reaching into the very center of familiar plant life and presenting my discoveries in a compelling and contemporary graphic manner," she says. Ann Parker’s work is represented in major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of Art and Boston Museum of Art. Her large photograms will be on display in the North Gallery and will be for sale.
Award-winning artist Julie Kiefer-Bell of DeKalb will exhibit a new series of flower paintings, "Reflections," in the Museum. To give luminosity to her flower subjects, she uses specialty paints, such as metallic or iridescent oils, in combination with textured papers embedded with bark and fibers. All paintings are for sale.
Gallery Talks
An opening reception for both exhibits will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 18. At 2 p.m., Ann Parker will give a lecture and then lead a gallery walk. Julie Kiefer-Bell will give a gallery talk at 2 p.m. on March 27.

"Spectacular," "inspiring," "marvelous" and "exhilarating" are some of the words visitors used to describe the "In Search of Paradise: Centuries of Great Garden Design" exhibit when it last appeared at the Garden. If you’re looking for inspiration and exhilaration, view the selections from this exhibit that brings to life 4,000 years of garden design.
Segments are devoted to the gardens of Italy, France, Japan, North America and the Middle East. In each area, dramatic 6-foot photomurals represent garden traditions from their earliest roots to their modern-day interpretations.
