The Met Office is an internationally renowned centre of
excellence, providing a wide range of meteorological and
environmental services to customers throughout the world.
Purpose of the job
The role of the Mobile Met Unit (MMU) continues to expand,
as the UK Armed Forces become more focused on maintaining
a mobile, rapidly deployable capability, as defined in the
Strategic Defence Review. Each year our customers require
a greater visibility of where their money is being spent.
The MMU Accounting Administrator will track and monitor
any spend on behalf of the MMU and present the information
in a format that the customer can understand. The purpose
of the MMU Accounting Administrator is to record and collate
financial information relating to MMU operations and to
provide an administrative service as required by the MMU.
Main duties and responsibilities
The main activity of the MMU Accounting Administrators time
(70%) will be spent monitoring any costs incurred by MMU
operations. This will involve:
- analysing incoming costs and recording them against
relevant costs codes
- collating and summarising costs by exercise and operation
- analysing costs over time to identify averages
- producing a monthly summary of costs incurred
- reporting to MMU Operations Officer
30% of the MMU Accounting Administrator posts time will
be spent in an administrative role. This includes:
- filing
- photocopying
- maintaining stationery supplies
- point of contact
- collation and distribution of RAF, Reservist and Met
Office Instructions
Person Specification
Essential:
- the ability to work unsupervised
- excellent interpersonal skills
- good working knowledge of accounting procedures
Desirable:
- be familiar with meteorological support to military
operations
- be familiar with military rank structures

- Commonwealth citizen

- National of the European Economic Area or a certain
family member of a European Economic Area national; the
European Economic Area is comprised of the member states
of the European Union and certain member states of the
European Free Trade Area.
Citizens from countries not included in the above list
may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
Again, in common with all United Kingdom (UK) Civil Service
departments and Executive Agencies, some posts in the Met
Office are 'reserved' for UK Nationals only. Applicants
who are not UK Nationals should be aware that further career
prospects might be affected. Staff have a mobility commitment
which means they may be required to serve at other UK mainland
locations where posts are reserved.
