The Wiener Konzerthaus is one of the most important and artistically advanced musical institutions in Europe. It has been an essential part of Vienna's musical life for more than 85 years. Each season - from October to June - around 700 performances featuring more than 3,000 different compositions are held in the Konzerthaus' four concert halls. Around 600,000 visitors, both from Austria and abroad, attend these performances. The mix of the old and the new in this opening concert - a contemporary composition and a classical masterpiece – is a major feature of the Konzerthaus' repertoire. With its broad, diverse and exciting programme the Konzerthaus ranks alongside the Vienna State Opera and the Musikverein in contributing to Vienna's fame as a city of music.

The adjacent Akademietheater specializes in both classic and contemporary works, from Brecht to Shakespeare. The Burgtheater Company often performs here, it's the world-famous troupe's second, smaller house.
