Geese, Geese Everywhere
By Peggy B.
Giant Canada geese are growing in numbers. In the Central flyway, geese transplanted from central strongholds such as residential and industrial areas around Rochester, MN and Minneapolis/St. Paul are growing in number. Geese populations have grown so large that increased harvest from hunting is needed to keep geese from overpopulating and doing damage to farmlands.

Get Your Dog In Shape
Swimming is an excellent way to keep your dog, particiularly a hunting dog, in top physical condition. It improves the dog's lung capacity and muscle tone, and keeps them in good overall health. In the summer it's a great way to cool off your dog. If the water area is big enough, you can have your dog swim behind you in a canoe or while wading. Or, throw a ball or a practice dummy for the dog to retrieve. Don't overdo it at first, and watch for signs that your dog is getting tired.

Mosquito Doctoring
Researchers working in England, Germany and Greece are using genetic adjustment to render mosquitos immune to malaria and other diseases. In many foreign countries, Mosquitos catch malaria and then transmit it to humans when biting them. Reportedly, researchers have succeeded in putting new genes into one strain of mosquito that makes it impossible for the malarial parasites to survive inside the mosquito. Thus, the mosquito cannot transfer the disease to mankind.
