Cheyenne Wilderness Retreat

Cheyenne Wilderness Retreat - The Hosts

Your Host s - Burgh and Sue Blomfield

Nestling at the edge of the Oxley Wild River National Park, Cheyenne offers breathtaking views of grandiose gorges. These views, woven into the misty-blue horizon, bring a feeling of unequalled calm and serenity to the city dweller. It is here, in this setting, you may enjoy life on a working Australian farm.
Cheyenne has been in the hands of the Blomfield family since the early 1920's. Burgh and Sue are the third generation to have had the privilege to work on this land.

On - farm activities:
- milk the cow
- feed the chickens and the pigs, along with treats for ‘Coco-Co Pops’ the goat - experience the adventure of cray bobbing  or dam fishing
- fossick for copper or graphite
- take a 4x4 drive into the huge and magnificent Macleay Wilderness Area.

Near-by activities
- visit to spectacular and awesome Apsley Falls
- nearby golf links
- enjoy bowls
- set tennis and archery in your sights
- become aware of the cultural history of the area and the land. Local museums, craft shops and art galleries offer a range of opportunities

Guest can explore the National Park's unique dry rainforest. The wealth of bird and other wildlife are to be marveled at. Maps available at Cheyenne outline and explain 20 routes you may walk. These range in time commitments. The rugged day long bush walk is the most testing.
And then in the evening watch the feeding of the rare and endangered brush-tailed rock wallabies. After an exciting day retire to the snug, self-contained three bedroom cottage where the warmth of the slow-combustion wood heater and the silence of the night ensure a sound sleep.

But before you do, indulge yourself with Burgh's country fare. Venison, lamb and beef may be on the menu which may be roasted in the gazebo's camp oven. Sue serves her wholesome meals, prepared with homegrown goodies, in the farm kitchen. A picnic basket can be prepared for you should you wish to adventure into the countryside.
