Work experience at Met Office HQ and outstations.
We have limited work experience opportunities for year 10-11
pupils, normally for one week.

University students are invited to apply for industrial and
summer placements before 31 January of the year in which they wish
to work. Placements are normally at our Met Office headquarters. Please

Forecasting, research and IT posts
- A first or upper second class degree in maths, one of the physical
sciences, computer science or meteorology is required
- Successful applicants must have good communication skills, are
adaptable and prepared to work in more than one specialist area
- An interest in meteorology is an advantage, but training can be
provided at our residential training college
- You must also have GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language at
grade C or above
- For forecasting, you must also have mathematics and physics to
A level standard, grade C or above
Other opportunities
- Occasionally, opportunities arise
in areas such as business, marketing, accounts and graphics, for
which you should have the appropriate qualifications or experience
- Vacancies may occur in administrative posts, for which a minimum
of five GCSEs (or equivalent) including English Language is required
- Security, semi-skilled and unskilled jobs can also arise from time
to time
- Depending on the nature of the vacancy, posts are advertised in
the national or local press, in appropriate publications, on the
internet and at Job Centres
