Rare books acquired for Library

The Garden has acquired a priceless collection of more than 4,000 rare botanical books and journals from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. Works include first editions of Darwin’s botanical works and exquisite botanical illustrations.

The priceless collection, dating back to the 15th century, includes 2,219 rare books and 2,000 journal titles. It gives the Garden one of the country’s top botanical libraries for research and education.

With the Garden's certificate programs, you can delve into a topic of interest or prepare for a new career.

The School's newest certificate program is Healthcare Garden Design helps professionals design environments of care.
The Plant Conservation Biology certificate program now offers college credit. This two-year course of study trains biologists, teachers, plant conservation enthusiasts and natural resource professionals.
A new Certificate of Completion in Home Garden Planning provides a one-course program for all aspects of planning a home landscape.

Certificate programs are also available in Ornamental Plant Materials, Natural Studies and Midwest Gardening.

Garden encyclopedia published
	The Garden's three-volume encyclopedia, Chicago Botanic Garden Encyclopedia of Gardens: History and Design, was hailed by the New York Times as "the best of this season’s" and an "exemplary work." Published by Fitzroy Dearborn of Chicago and London, the 1,545-page reference work compiles 650 entries by experts about the history of garden design.
The encyclopedia is available at the Garden’s Library and Garden Shop.

Garden annouces sunflower book

Encyclopedia The Garden has released a photographic guide, The Sunflower Family in the Upper Midwest, published by Indiana Academy of Science. Thomas Antonio, the Garden’s former Taxonomist and Research Botanist, and Susanne Masi, the current Research Botanist, are co-authors.

The book highlights the diversity of species in the Asteraceae (sunflower family) within this region, from asters to blazing stars to goldenrods. It is available for $48 at the Garden Shop.

Classes offered at Mettawa Manor
	At the Kurtis Conservation Foundation, Bill Kurtis and Donna LaPietra have graciously invited students of the School of the Chicago Botanic Garden to study at Mettawa Manor, the foundation's home. Several courses are offered at this 75-acre estate, composed of formal gardens, woodlands and a prairie, that provides a unique learning environment.
