CHARGE: Establish standards for the acquisition, storage and disposal of radioactive and other hazardous materials, including HHS Select Agents, HHS/USDA Overlap Agents, and USDA High Consequence Livestock Pathogens and Toxins; provide for administration of all radioactive and hazardous and infectious materials acquired by the University including HHS Select Agents, HHS/USDA Overlap Agents, and USDA High Consequence Livestock Pathogens and Toxins; oversee the use of ionization producing instruments; in some cases, act as agent for the University in certifying use, access, and training of personnel handling radioactive materials, recombinant DNA, and other hazardous materials; designate kinds of personnel required to implement programs/projects using radioactive/hazardous and DNA materials; examine proposals involving research with respect to risks and adequacy of facilities using radioactive/hazardous and DNA materials; protect both individuals and the general public; ensure institutional compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and ordinances including H.R. 3448 the "Public Health Secrutiry and Bioterrorism Preparedness Act of 2002" pertaining to using radioactive, DNA, infectious, and other bilogically toxic materials including HHS Select Agents, HHS/USDA Overlap Agents, and USDA High Consequence Livestock Pathogens and Toxins.
