| Iraqi Police Training Spokesman Richard Boucher (Jan. 30): "On January 29, the first class of 466 Iraqi police recruits graduated from an intensive 8-week training program conducted in Jordan. They have now returned home again to begin their policing duties in Iraq. As part of an agreement with the Coalition Provisional Authority, Jordan is providing facilities and other support to enable the training of approximately 35,000 Iraqi police recruits over the next 2 years." Jerusalem Bombing Secretary Powell (Jan. 29): "The Minister and I reflected on the horrendous attack that took place in Jerusalem this morning, and we condemn it thoroughly.... I once again implore the Palestinian leaders, and especially Prime Minister Abu Alaa, to do everything in his power, everything in their power, to ostracize these terrorists, to go after them, and to deal with this terrorist activity." Child Sex Trafficking Trafficking in persons, especially in children, is a key issue for the State Department. As Secretary Powell said on NBC's "Dateline" child sex trafficking is "the worst kind of human exploitation imaginable.... It is a sin against humanity, and it is a horrendous crime." Trafficking in persons is among the fastest growing criminal activities; 800,000-900,000 people, mostly women and children, are trafficked across borders worldwide. [more]
