Comprehensive Programmes for Adolescents
Large multisectoral initiatives are likely to become more common if adolescent sexual and reproductive health needs are to be met effectively. The various components of programmes that involve several sectors of government need to be carefully sequenced and coordinated. Coordination authorities must be clearly delineated or project efforts will devolve into separate activities.(12) At the same time, ownership and commitment is needed in all sectors, by all partners.
Capacity is key for successful coordination. In many instances, however, new youth ministries that lack infrastructure and resources compared to well-established ministries have taken the lead in multisectoral youth projects.
