CONSERVATION OF COLLECTIONS
The National Trust’s historic houses contain large and enormously varied collections of works of art and other objects, which are displayed, as far as possible, in their original settings, and only very rarely behind glass.
In order to ensure the long-term preservation of these collections, remedial conservation work is carried out on individual objects to put right the effects of previous deterioration. A range of preventive conservation measures has been devised in order to ensure that any future deterioration is kept to an absolute minimum.
