Fishing, Clamming and Crabbing
Bald Head Island offers anglers excellent inshore and
offshore fishing opportunities. Fishing supplies such
as equipment, crabs nets, bait and clam rakes are available
on the island. Bald Head Island also hosts the annual
fishing rodeo each summer, attracting anglers from around
the world.

14 Miles of Beaches
Fourteen miles of white sandy beaches await your footprints.
Swimming, walking and shell hunting can be enjoyed along
the beaches where you might not see another person for
hours.
Historic Tours
Take a tour of Bald Head Island and learn about its
rich history. Bald Head Island was a known hiding place
for notorious pirates and many believe this is location
of Blackbeard's hidden treasure. During the Civil War,
Bald Head Island served to protect the shipping channel
of the Cape Fear River. Old Baldy, North Carolina's
oldest lighthouse, was used to warn ships of the dangerous
"Frying Pan Shoals" and was later used as
a US Lifesaving station. Historic tours are available,

Cycling,
Running, Walking and Jogging
Cyclist, runners and joggers will find miles of traffic-free
lanes. There are no combustible vehicles allowed on
the island. Live Oaks, Palm trees and island ferns are
densely situated along the paths. Bald Head Island also
hosts the "Maritime Classic 10K Run" which
is a TAC sanctioned event. The beaches present an excellent
opportunity for a sunset bicycle ride or an early morning
walk.
Nature
Trails and the Maritime Forest
Bald Head Island has dedicated most of its maritime
forest to create the "North Carolina State Maritime
Forest Preserve". Trails and wooden bridges allow
you to explore this wonderful ecosystem. The "Kent
Mitchell Nature Trail" features a wooden planked
path and allows one the pleasure of exploring the salt
marsh and tidal creek.

Hole Championship Golf Course
Bald Head Island's challenging 18 hole golf course was
designed by George Cobb and encompasses all the island's
beauty. Fresh water lagoons, scenic maritime forest
and the Atlantic Ocean surround the fairways of this
remarkable course. Tee times can be arranged through
our 5-star concierge service.
Golf lessons, clinics and rental clubs are available
year round.
Tennis,
Croquet and Swimming
There
are four tennis courts located at the Bald Head Island
Club. Racquets, instruction and clinics are available.
A 25 meter swimming pool is also located at the club
and features a pool-side snack bar. A lifeguard is on
duty during the summer months. Swimming instruction,
water aerobics and other activities are offered during
the summer. Challenge yourself to a game of croquet
with two championship croquet greenwards. The North
Carolina State Croquet Championship is often held on
the island.
Junior
Athletic Clinic
Youngsters
can improve their skills or learn a new sport with the
junior tennis and golf clinics. Whether it's
their first swing or 100th swing, the golf and tennis
pros provide instruction and tips and arrange tournaments
to enhance one's confidence level.
Canoeing
and Kayaking
Take
a scenic canoe or kayak tour on the winding creek along
salt marshes teaming with all manner of shore birds.
The creek travels past the "old baldy" lighthouse
and continues into the maritime forest. Canoe and Kayak
rentals and guided tours are available.
Camp
Baldy
Camp
Baldy offers a variety of programs for children between
the ages of 5 and 12. Camp Baldy is conducted during
the summer months and includes nature trail hikes, pool
games, sea turtle sightings and scavenger hunts. Teen
