Please view our Bald Head Island Fishing page and our highly viewed North Carolina Fishing Guide.

14 Miles of Beaches

Fourteen miles of white sandy beaches await your footprints. Swimming, walking and shell hunting can be enjoyed along the beaches where you might not see another person for hours.

Historic Tours

Take a tour of Bald Head Island and learn about its rich history. Bald Head Island was a known hiding place for notorious pirates and many believe this is location of Blackbeard's hidden treasure. During the Civil War, Bald Head Island served to protect the shipping channel of the Cape Fear River. Old Baldy, North Carolina's oldest lighthouse, was used to warn ships of the dangerous "Frying Pan Shoals" and was later used as a US Lifesaving station. Historic tours are available, and can be arranged through our 5-star concierge service.

Cycling, Running, Walking and Jogging

Cyclist, runners and joggers will find miles of traffic-free lanes. There are no combustible vehicles allowed on the island. Live Oaks, Palm trees and island ferns are densely situated along the paths. Bald Head Island also hosts the "Maritime Classic 10K Run" which is a TAC sanctioned event. The beaches present an excellent opportunity for a sunset bicycle ride or an early morning walk.

Nature Trails and the Maritime Forest

Bald Head Island has dedicated most of its maritime forest to create the "North Carolina State Maritime Forest Preserve". Trails and wooden bridges allow you to explore this wonderful ecosystem. The "Kent Mitchell Nature Trail" features a wooden planked path and allows one the pleasure of exploring the salt marsh and tidal creek.

18 Hole Championship Golf Course

Bald Head Island's challenging 18 hole golf course was designed by George Cobb and encompasses all the island's beauty. Fresh water lagoons, scenic maritime forest and the Atlantic Ocean surround the fairways of this remarkable course. Tee times can be arranged through our 5-star concierge service. Golf lessons, clinics and rental clubs are available year round.

Tennis, Croquet and Swimming

There are four tennis courts located at the Bald Head Island Club. Racquets, instruction and clinics are available. A 25 meter swimming pool is also located at the club and features a pool-side snack bar. A lifeguard is on duty during the summer months. Swimming instruction, water aerobics and other activities are offered during the summer. Challenge yourself to a game of croquet with two championship croquet greenwards. The North Carolina State Croquet Championship is often held on the island.

Junior Athletic Clinic

Youngsters can improve their skills or learn a new sport with the junior tennis and golf clinics.   Whether it's their first swing or 100th swing, the golf and tennis pros provide instruction and tips and arrange tournaments to enhance one's confidence level.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Take a scenic canoe or kayak tour on the winding creek along salt marshes teaming with all manner of shore birds. The creek travels past the "old baldy" lighthouse and continues into the maritime forest. Canoe and Kayak rentals and guided tours are available.

Camp Baldy

Camp Baldy offers a variety of programs for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Camp Baldy is conducted during the summer months and includes nature trail hikes, pool games, sea turtle sightings and scavenger hunts. Teen Night is offered for young adults.
