Educational Technology Department
Department Mission Statement:
To be proactive in the application of technologies
as solutions to teaching, learning and productivity goals; to seek out
appropriate technologies to integrate into the teaching and learning
environment to meet the goals and objectives of World Learning and the
School for International Training.
The Department staff consists of the Director of Educational Technology
and the Computer Lab Coordinators and can be found in the Undergraduate
Building, First Floor.
Student Computing Services
Student Computing Services is the most visible segment of
Educational Technology at SIT. The student computer labs are resource
areas designed primarily for the completion of student coursework, specifically
assignments, presentations, and the research associated with these.
 The
Student Labs are open 24-hours a day. Work-study students trained as
lab assistants are available to help most evenings and weekends during
the academic year.
Facilities
The Student Computing Labs are primarily for word
processing, email access, and Internet research. SIT is predominately
a PC/Windows campus and the labs are currently equipped with Windows
and Macintosh workstations containing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
for preparation of class assignments. Each workstation is connected
to the Student Lab File Server where documents for coursework and general
information is available. All workstations have Internet access and
are equipped with Internet software.
 The
Multimedia Learning Lab has fifteen workstations and is available as a
teaching classroom for research, language study, and the use of special
software that may be required by a course. Incorporating the latest in
educational software and hardware, this facility is a model technology
classroom. This facility is available on a scheduled basis only.
There are other workstations in buildings around the campus in the Rotch
Building, Student Services Building, and International Center that provide
student access to email and the Internet.

Email
Internet email accounts are available for students
in the on-campus portion of their program. Email accounts are activated
following the successful completion of the required orientation to the
computer lab. These lab training sessions are available during orientation
week. Workshops will be available in word processing, Internet use,
email, and the use of other lab software on an ad hoc basis.
Educational Technology Office
The Director of Educational Technology is involved
in coordinating technology use for educational purposes throughout World
Learning and SIT. The Director assists faculty and students with technology
projects, teaches workshops on various technology issues and hardware
and software items, and provides direction to the institution's educational
technology planning processes. |
