Second Language Teacher Educator (Spanish), Department of Language Teacher Education, School for International Training (SIT)

Reports to: Dean, Department of Language Teacher Education
Location: Brattleboro, Vermont
Start Date: June 2004

General Description: The Second Language Teacher Educator will be a faculty member in the newly redesigned Master's Degree Program in Foreign Language Teaching. This program prepares teachers of French and Spanish for work in U.S. public schools and is a collaboration between SIT faculty in the Department of Language Teacher Education and SIT Study Abroad, which operates more than 50 programs in more than 40 countries. The Second Language Teacher Educator will join a diverse and dedicated team, made up of SIT faculty and local school practitioners, committed to excellence in foreign language education. S/he will teach a variety of courses in both Spanish and English, including Spanish linguistic, culture, and pedagogy courses. S/he will also supervise students during their internships in local public schools and contribute to the shaping and development of this degree program.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Teach Spanish Linguistics
• Teach Intercultural Communication for Spanish Teachers
• Teach Curriculum, Materials, and Assessment in Spanish
• Teach other courses, in Spanish and English, as needed
• Supervise student internships

Required Qualifications:

• MA or MAT degree
• Ability to teach and work professionally in both Spanish and English
• Excellent classroom teaching skills
• Experience teaching in public school settings
• Significant experience in teaching of Spanish or other languages
• Significant experience in teaching of teachersKnowledge of and experience with linguistics, language acquisition, intercultural communication, learner-centered pedagogy, reflective practice, and public school teaching

Desired Qualifications:

• PhD degree
• Experience in diverse Spanish-speaking cultures and countries
