LOVE HORSES.
I have always been dazzled by horses.
When I was a little girl, Mom traded a truck load of hay for that first
pony, Goldie. When I first saw him, he was the most beautiful sight
-- ever -- looked like pure gold (enhanced by sunlight from a barn
window). Through the years, many horses have come and gone in our lives, but
that first one was special. Goldie gave me a life long love for
horses.
Today, we are thankful for the opportunity to share our
equine friends with others.

FARM HISTORY: The farm/ranch north of
Bismarck, was
homesteaded by the Erickson's in the late 1800's. There are visible wagon
train ruts in the pasture from those earlier days. Much of the land has
remained the same. The changing is the generations and equipment
that comb the surface. They presently grow grains, peas, sunflowers, and
raise beef cattle. When my two brothers and I were growing up, we had
chores generated from those dang Holstein milk cows. |

COWBOY talk.
I've heard
Kevin's friends say -- serious ranchers are not called cowboys; they prefer the term "Cattlemen". It's not proper to ask a Cattleman how many cattle
he has or how many acres he
owns or how those dents occurred in his ranch truck (herding cows?). And some cattlemen are more horse savvy than others. I found some of this out the amusing way--from Kevin.
Kevin was also fortunate to be raised in a picturesque and beautiful Red Hill Ranch, Sundance, Wyoming. This is true cattle and top 10 rodeo cowboy country close to
Huelett,
Wyoming. A place where black felt hats rule year round. But on the Red Hill Ranch, Kevin grew up moving and checking cattle with his trusty dirt bike! Too well do I remember my first experience checking cattle sitting behind Kevin on a dirt bike, buzzing through coulees in Wyoming.
From that, I'd say, "some things one only needs to do once".

HUUFDA HOTEL. Kevin and I hauled our horses many
miles before moving back to ND. We decided when we were settled on our
farm, we would offer our home to those vacationing or traveling with their
horses or renting ours. This dream is now a reality. We feel very fortunate and proud to be owners of the Huufda Hotel. Our Huufda Hotel
equestrian farm, is also a North Dakota state licensed
Bed and Breakfast with the option to rest horses
at our
overnight stable
for those traveling with their horses. We are open year 'round for
folks coming to ride, camp, vacation, or to take part in the many
activities our area provides. |
