Weather permitting, the English countryside is beautiful, and features some fantastic natural and historic attractions.
Dover is most famously the landing place for continental visitors and is remarkable for its white cliffs, while Hastings and Battle, in Sussex, is where William the Conquer was victorious in his conquest of England.
Brighton, on the south coast, is bohemian and only an hour from London. The lovely New Forest, is steeped in King Arthur legend. Dorset and Devon are picturesque while Celtic Cornwall has a magical charm about it. The iconic Stonehenge, on the Salisbury plains, is an ancient ritual site estimated to be five thousand years old. Nearby, the Cotswolds comprise of a limestone escarpment, overlooking the Severn Vale, providing stunningly pretty vistas.
The Lake districts inspired Wordsworth with its pretty lakes, green hills and pleasant walking, and attracts 10 million visitors a year!
Wales offers the lovely Pembrokeshire coastline, while the beautiful, unspoilt, rolling hills of the Brecon Beacons national park, lies to the north of Cardiff.
Scotland has its own unique charm and is home to St Andrews, birthplace of golf. There’s apparently a huge monster in the Loch Ness, but there true appeal is a drive through the spectacular highlands, meandering through glens and along deserted lochs.
The islands off the west and north coast are rural and peaceful, with road access to Skye. Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest peak is located at Fort William. Loch Lomond is easily reached from Glasgow, making it popular along with the picturesque ride aboard the West Highland Railway.
