The mission of the SIT Center for Social Policy and Institutional Development is to strengthen the management capacity of nongovernmental organizations and other sectors of civil society concerned with participatory sustainable development. Drawing on the resources of SIT's worldwide network of alumni, consultants, and partner organizations, the Center designs and implements professional development courses, customized training, and applied research projects for individuals, foundations, and organizations such as USAID, the United Nations, and the U.S. Peace Corps. Recent Center initiatives include specialized training programs and consultancies on policy advocacy, managing diversity, cross-cultural communication, strategic planning, human resource management, organizational assessment, participatory decision making, and conflict management. The Center continues to build a community of peacebuilders and youth leaders through its annual Governor's Institute on Current Issues and Youth Activism and its summer programs for youth from cultures in conflict, including Cyprus, Northern Ireland, and the Middle East. SIT students regularly participate in these activities as facilitators, activity coordinators, and teaching assistants. |
