Master of Arts in Conflict TransformationSIT's Master of Arts in Conflict Transformation is designed to engage current and future peace builders in the tasks of conflict prevention, intervention and healing within their own communities and as third party actors. The program focuses on SIT’s strengths in human relations and multi-cultural competence, in working with the NGO sector, in hands-on, pragmatic pedagogy and in field-based practicum experience. The values needed for systemic transformation in individuals, relationships among parties in conflict and global structures are encouraged and modeled. Students are introduced to critical and timely topics emerging in the new field of conflict studies, such as forgiveness and reconciliation, the conflict-humanitarian aid-development paradigm, identity and resource-based conflicts, refugees, child soldiers and issues of gender and conflict. Specific conflict intervention skills developed through the courses include introductory mediation, negotiation, and inter-group dialogue facilitation. Graduates in Conflict Transformation prepare themselves for positions in the public, private or multi-lateral sectors, working in inter-group peacebuilding, in conflict prevention and education, in NGO delivery service and as advocates, catalysts and trainers in conflict management and alternative dispute resolution.
