Current Fishing Report:

Note:  This will be the last fishing report for the year. Current fishing reports will continue in the spring.

Current Fishing Conditions:

As of 11/12/03, the Kenai Peninsula has seen its first significant snowfall of the year. Eight to ten inches have fallen since Tuesday morning and high temperatures have remained below freezing with snow continuing to fall. Partly cloudy skies later in the week will bring even colder conditions.

Rainbow trout fishing on the middle Kenai below Skilak Lake and the Upper Kenai River between Skilak and Kenai Lake has been fair to good with the average size of the fish being quite large. Fish continue to feed on single eggs and flesh and the best fishing seems to be mid day when the water temperature is warmest. The Kenai is dropping very fast with recent snow and freezing conditions and soon the river may be inaccessible for boats.

Steelhead fishing on the southern peninsula rivers has been productive but recent snow has transformed the landscape and winter conditions now prevail. Water levels continue to fall and if cold weather remains, as it likely will, the river will soon ice up.
