The Kenai River Sportfishing Association is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit membership-based educational and conservation organization of sport anglers, conservationists and others whose primary goal is preservation and improvement of salmon habitat while promoting responsible sportfishing on the Kenai River.

The association created and sponsors the Kenai River Classic, an annual invitational fishing event in July, which is designed to raise funds for bank stabilization projects, public education and fisheries research. The event has raised over $1 million in its first six years with honorary co-hosts U.S. Senator Ted Stevens and Alaska Governor Tony Knowles.

Protection of fish habitat within the Kenai River watershed is the association's top priority. Toward this end, the Kenai River Habitat Protection Program (HabPro) was created to encourage private property owners and public land managers to work together in safeguarding the Kenai River. The HabPro Advisory Board is chaired by Jim Golden, a member of the Kenai River Sportfishing Association Board of Directors, and is comprised of Board members:  Dick Bower - City of Soldotna Representative, Suzanne Fisler - Alaska Department of Fish & Game Habitat biologist, Brett Huber - Executive Director KRSA, Glenda Landau - Alaska Department of Fish & Game biologist, Dave Lowery - KRSA  board member, Don McKay - KRSA board member, Charlissa Magen, John Mohorcich - Kenai River Center, Tim Navarre - Kenai Peninsula Borough member, and Charles Quarre - Kenai River Property Owners Assoc.

The Kenai River is the greatest Salmon sportfishing river in the World, holding nearly two dozen current International Game Fish Association world records for three species of Salmon and other fish.

The association's Kenai Eagle Award recognizes private property owners and public land managers who are examples of stewardship along the Kenai. Eagle Award recipients receive a plaque signed by the Governor of Alaska, the Commissioners of the Department of Fish & Game and Natural Resources, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor and the Chairman of Kenai River Sportfishing. Awards are presented annually by the Governor.

Kenai River Sportfishing works as a liaison between our association's members and the Alaska Board of Fisheries, the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, Alaska State parks, the Kenai River Special Management Area Board, the State Legislature, local governments, federal agencies and numerous other organizations.
