CHARGE: Regulate animal care and use in all programs associated with the University; make recommendations and suggest policy for the administration of the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) regarding animals in teaching and research programs; ascertain compliance with appropriate federal regulations; act as the internal certifying agency for the University concerning animal care and welfare; conduct forums, as appropriate, on the needs for uses of and policies pertaining to research using animals.
REPORTS TO: President through VP for Health Affairs and VP for Academic Affairs
VOTING: Nine Faculty Representatives who are practicing scientists experienced in research involving animals (Two each from Arts & Sciences and Public & Allied Health and five from Medicine); Director, Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (D.V.M. with training or experience in laboratory animal science and medicine; one Staff Representative working with Laboratory Animals; two Community Representatives (including the President of the Johnson City/Washington County Humane Society and one member of the community-at-large).
NON-VOTING and EX-OFFICIO: Associate Vice President for Research; representative from the College of Nursing Occupational Health Office
