Bokin Bokin: A nice view from here covering the whole southeast portion of Torajaland. Few tourists. Buntao: 15 km. Old graves and tau tau. A Beautiful approach from Paniki. Bemos go here, but infrequently.Kete' Kesu: 4 km. A characteristic Torajan village where many artifacts are for sale; outstanding wooden and bamboo carvings. See the kepala desa's house. 100 m behind the village are scattered skulls and bones over old rotted hardwood coffins with dragon motifs on them Lemo: 12 km. More dramatic than Londa and one of the easiest to get to. On the way to Lemo on the left-hand side there's a church to visit on Sunday morning; exuberant singing. Join in or just sit outside and listen. The best tau tau are to be seen at Lemo; 60 statues and 30 funerary niches carved into solid rock. Standing like spectators on balconies outside deep pockets where the dead are buried, the wide-eyed doubles lean on the railings. These realistic puppets are protected by thick paint. Climb the crag at the side until almost level with the staring bright eyes, their bodies clothed in vivid checks and bandana colors. Their colthing, worn by sun, wind and rain, is changed periodically. Some have traveling sacks for their trip to the Land of Souls. Londa: 6 km. Old cave graves, a balcony of effigies, heaps of wooden coffins, bones. Little girls with smoking torches or flashlights will lead you through the catacombs. Pala' tokke: 9 km. A long scenic walk. Two 800 year old hanging graves here and some skulls lying about in an almost Ethiopian setting. Kids playing flutes. The villagers will take you up the cliffs, 20 minutes walk. No charge; could give the guide a ballpoint pen or something.randan batu :11 km graves and a knifesmith lives here. Sangga Langi : 3 km. house are built against a cliff, once served as a fortress. Sullukarang : a verry old secluded village abauot 3 km past kete kesu. this amazingly tranquil island kampung has menhirs, graves and statues. the statues are seated in a shack overlooking the village hard to get a good photo. not often visited.Tembamba: 17 km. A mountain pass village 3 km beyond Buntao with old graves and an awesome panorama.Tilanga: 9 km. A cool fresh clear blue water natural swimming hole. Free entry. On Sundays they sell fruit. Take a bemo to the turnoff, then walk 2 km from the highway down the road to Lemo. By the time you get to Tilanga you're ready for it.

we must point out a very important distinction which the Balinese make between
two clearly separate groups of ancestors. The first of these groups consists
of the dead who are riot yet completely purified. This group is in turn subdivided
in pirata, those riot yet cremated, and pitara, those already cremated. The
former are still completely impure; the latter have been purified, but are still
considered as distinct, individual souls. The second group consists of the completely
