We left the harbor at 5:00 on this day of variable 10 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy. We were third to the buoy so we jigged and caught some aku and shibi and ran them live, them we hooked a mahi on light line and more followed it in and we baited up 3 more. Then we set up and trolled out to 30 miles out, where we found a current line and caught 2 nice mahi along it. On our way in we took a blind mahi strike and got it too. We saw whales all over the place today. In the harbor both guys ate eyeballs gladly. These guys did a great job all day. Aloha Capt Rusty

We departed at 5:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite bouy. On the way we caught a 11 pound ulua, and three 8 pound aku. At the buoy we took a double mahi and got them both. Then we jigged and caught some aku and shibi and ran them live. The first aku we put out was eaten off the hook real quick, the next one we caught was mauled on the way in, a mahi followed it in and Scot baited it up. Then a bigger one came around and Scot baited it up and Dana reeled it in, it was a 32 pound bully. Then just about every aku that we ran live was chewed on by some mahi, we got one or two a pass. Then Scot baited up another big bully and Joey reeled it in, it went 34 pounds. We ended up with 17 mahi, and Joey reeled most of them in. These kids did great, and had fun too. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Chris Foster, Matt Dzurec, Guy and Tom Eldridge caught 26 mahi and some aku and shibi for a great day of fishing
We got underway at 5:00 on this day of strong 30 mph trade winds going to my favorite buoy. We took a triple mahi on our first pass and got all 3. Then we jigged and caught some aku and ran them live, the mahis were all over our aku and Scot baited 2 or 3 a pass untill we had about 15. Then they slowed down so we set up to troll out and Scot only got one lure in the water and it took off with a mahi. We came back thru the area and took a double mahi, that's when I spotted a small log floating. We baited and got one mahi, then a nice marlin showed up right behind the boat, Scot tossed him an aku and he ate it and took off. It ran for a while then it broke line, bummer. We got a few more mahi and headed in. On the way we found a small rope floating and baited up some more mahi, to end up with 26. In the harbor only Chris and Guy were game to join in the ritual eyeball eating. These guys were great they reeled all those fish in and handeled the rough water real well, they are seaworthy to the max. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Anthony and Michael Anaya caught 1 marlin 120#, 33 mahi, 2 onos and some aku and shibi for our third clean sweep of the year
We got going at 5:00 on this windy day of 30 mph trades going to my favorite buoy. We took a double mahi on our first pass and got them both. We then jigged and caught some aku and shibi and ran them live, mahi were on them fast. After one pass a marlin came up and ate one of our akus, and Anthony had it to the boat in about 15 minutes. Scot baited up 2 or three a pass and we had about 8 when we left going out and down. We found a few open schools of mahi and got 3 more before we came to another buoy and started to catch some bait there but a mahi hit the aku lure and more followed in so Scot baited them up. Then I spotted a big net floating near the buoy, game on, the mahi came down in waves following us as we made bait passes around this net, and they were hungry. We had 5 or 6 on sveral times, it was as good as mahi fishing gets, wild action. Just before we left it we took a double small onos to make the clean sweep.  These guys did a fantastic job of reeling all these fish in on this rough day, great going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got going at 5:00 on this day of 25 mph trades going to my favorite buoy. At the buoy we caught some small aku and ran them live, and before long we had a mahi on one and we baited up 4 of them. Then we went outside and found a few open schools, then we found a log, 10 feet long an 10 inches around, and loaded with mahi. We got a few trolling then went to baiting and had a few passes where we got 6 or 7 a pass, it was as good as mahi fishing gets. At the end of our time there we hooked a big bully on 80 pound test and Brad got to battle that 42 pounder for a while before it came to the boat. Back in the harbor only Alan was game to eat an eyeball out of a mahi, good going. It was a rought day and these folks did a great job of handeling the big seas, well most of them. They fish alot and it was apparent, they did great. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  The Herrin Family Lisa, Clifford, Charlie, and Charlie Jr. caught 19 mahi and one 180 pound marlin and 1 ono for a fantastic day of fishing
We got out of the harbor at 5:00 on this day of 15 mph north winds going to my favorite buoy. At the buoy we caught some small aku and ran them live as usual, and before long there was a mahi on one of them and Scot quickly baited it up. After we got it aboard we headed back towards the buoy and a marlin came up on one of our akus and was nice enough to eat it down. It never did jump at all, and we got Clifford in the chair to fight it. It only took about 25 minutes to get it to the boat and on the gaff. I had been conking it on the head for awhile when it made a radical thrashing and almost jumped into the boat, and almost got away, it was a wild thing, but we got it under control in the end. Then we headed outside, and found open school after open school and got 5 mahi by the time we were 20 miles out, then we found a coil of rope floating that was holding lots of mahi. We trolled some up then baited, they did not follow so well so we went back to trolling and they hooked up better. We got an ono on one pass and  baited up some more mahi. We ended up with19 mahi. These folks did great, they loved to fish and it showed. In the harbor Charlie ate an eyeball from a mahi, good going. Aloha Capt Rusty

At about 18 miles we found a floating part of a 55 gallon drum and got 11 more mahi there some on lures and some on bait, wild action it was. On our way back in we came on a big rope floating and got 1 more mahi and 2 onos off of it. Close to the harbor we got a great whale show with several jumping out of the water fairly close to the boat. In the harbor both Zachary and John ate eyeballs out of the mahis. These folks did great.
