Third seeded Argentine Guillermo Coria advanced to his first ATP Masters Series hard court semifinal with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win over German Nicolas Kiefer at the NASDAQ-100 Open in Miami on Wednesday. Coria, a quarterfinalist at the Pacific Life Open, is 16-4 on the season.
Coria's top-half semifinal opponent will be hard-hitting Chilean Fernando Gonzalez, who rallied from a set and a break down to defeat Romanian Andrei Pavel 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4. It's the first time in the tournament's 20-year history that two South Americans have made the semifinals.
