This is just the start of the fishing tips page. If you have a fishing tip, please share it with us. When fishing with a float your strike will be less effective if your
line sinks below the water line, it causes drag and alerts the fish
before your strike can be effective. If this is the case with your line
try a smear of vaseline (petroleum jelly), you can apply it by casting
your rig and retrieving it through your vaseline lined index finger
and thumb (be sure to wash the excess of thoroughly), this will help
to keep your line from sinking and give you a faster more effective
strike. Always make it a habit to check the condition of your line. You never
know if your next cast could hook up with a fish that will take your
rig to its limits. This can be done by simply running your thumb and
index finger along the line were it is subject to damage at the end
of your line caused from rocks, shells or the teeth of your last hook
up. If you feel any roughness you should change the line. A burley trail is a great way to attract fish. Be sure to include some
of your bait in the burley mix and remember, you want to attract and
entice the fish rather than feed them so be sure to mulch your burley. A suitable plastic container with a handle can have the opening widened
enough to suit your hand, fastened with your belt and used as a cheap
bait holder alternative. An empty plastic film canister with a snap on lid is a great way to
keep your new hooks separated from the used hooks in your tackle box
to help prevent corrosion. If you flatten or remove the barb on a hook it will do less damage
to any undersized fish you might catch and give them a better chance
of survival, this also benefits anyone who is unfortunate enough to
catch themselves or a friend! Trust me on that one. Ouch ;) If you own a rod that has come to grief in a car door or similar, don't
throw it away, it may be repairable. If you've broken off a few inches
from the tips for example you may be able to take advantage of one of
the many super sensitive tips on offer. If it a mid break you may just
need a simple joiner to give you a 2 piece rod I'll be adding more here as I go so please keep check.. If you've got any ideas tips or tricks for this page please share it with us. Thanks Steve |
