Challenge: The San Diego Spirit, a charter team in the Women’s United Soccer Association, a new professional women’s soccer league, needed a professional internet solution. The team needed a backend infrastructure that would allow it to share data and content with the league, while handling live scoring and frequent updating of content. The team was looking for a cost-effective solution that would give it a professional look, consistent with the league’s brand image, and a myriad of interactive features to engage its youthful audience. The team was also searching for an online ecommerce solution that would allow it to capitalize on sales opportunities outside its local market and an online ticketing and camp registration solution that would allow it to capitalize on the ease of online sales.

Approach: RMG3 approached these challenges with its powerful proprietary Content Management Tool: 1Touch™, which allows the team to share a vast array of content types (text; photos; graphics, audio and video downloads; and statistical data) with the league and other teams, and to update the content themselves with a user-friendly tool that generates immediate updates to their site. In order to increase the frequency of the content updates, RMG3 also employs its Content Production Team to source, write, edit and publish multiple stories each week to the site. To provide the most cost-effective solution, RMG3 utilized its Customized Templates approach, providing the team with a site template based on the official league site. RMG3 then worked with the team to create different looks through the use of team colors, photos, logos, fonts, and site element manipulation. RMG3 enhanced the site with its User-interactive Features, such as screensavers, desktop wallpapers, IM icons, interactive games, polls, contests, message boards, promotions, photo galleries, audio and video downloads, ecards, speak up forms, HTML newsletters, and surveys. RMG3 added an organized online storefront with a user-friendly two-step checkout process and robust backend able to handle multiple, simultaneous transactions. RMG3’s Store Management Team handles the Spirit’s warehousing, inventory management, processing, “pick and pack” and shipping. Finally, RMG3 added an online Ticket Store and Camp and Clinic Registration Functionality with a user-friendly display and robust backend able to handle multiple simultaneous transactions. The Ticket Store offers a solution for the online sale of Season Tickets, Group Tickets, and Mini Plans.

Result: The San Diego Spirit site has a clean, user-friendly, easily navigable, professional design, with new information and activities for visitors every day. Its secure back-end handles a significant volume of content that is shared between all the league’s sites. The team is able to have a cost-efficient, professional site that shares the league’s image but which meet the needs of their local market and the team’s objectives. The team’s new online store generated immediate interest and sales upon its launch and provides the team with a full service solution. The team’s online ticketing and camp registration functionalities have allowed the Spirit to streamline their internal operations and provided their fans with the ability to complete these transactions 24/7 in a secure online environment. Overall, the site has proved to be very popular with the team’s fans: “The site is great!! Go Spirit!”
