Energy efficiency

The Energy Saving Trust was set up by the UK Government after the 1992 Rio Earth Summit and is now one of the UK’s leading organisations addressing the damaging effects of climate change. Our goal is to achieve sustainable energy efficiency and to cut carbon dioxide emissions, which is the key contributor to global warming. Energy efficiency is one way to address this urgent and extremely important issue, which affects us all.

Find out more about energy efficiency.

Products that are developed to promote energy efficiency reduce energy wastage, save you cash on bills and help the environment. As an added bonus, a product that delivers energy efficiency does not need to cost more than its wasteful counterparts. To help you find these products, they display an Energy Efficiency Recommended logo mark, which means the product meets or exceeds specified energy efficiency requirements backed by the Government. It is your guarantee that the product you are buying will save energy, cost less to run and help the environment.

So what else can you do to promote energy efficiency within your home? There are some very simple but effective tricks that will ensure your home is well on the way to becoming energy efficient.

  • Tape polythene across window frames to ensure they are draught proof - a low cost alternative to double glazing .
  • Fill gaps in floorboards and skirting boards by filling them with sealant, newspaper or beading.
  • Close your curtains to stop heat escaping in the cold evenings.
