| Every three-year-old is now entitled to a free, part-time early education place, announced the Children’s Minister, Margaret Hodge. The minister also confirmed proposals to develop a new pilot to extend the benefits of high quality early education and care to 6,000 two-year-olds in disadvantaged areas.
The introduction of free part-time early education for every three-year-old has been delivered six months in advance of the original September 2004 target announced in September 2000.
All four-year-olds have had the entitlement since September 1998.
