Southport Art Museum Historical Art Show
Art by Minnie Evans and Claude Howell loaned by Cameron Art Center. Minnie Evans (1892-1987) was a self-taught artist whose imagery was derived from the natural world. Her work is recognized worldwide and a work of hers hangs at the Smithsonian Museum of Art. Claude Howell (1915-1997) was a professional artist and art teacher who gained fame from his broad flat colors of fishermen, docks and expanses of sand and sea. Both were from Wilmington. There will also be videos on the artists and Ms. Anne Brinnan, Program Director from Cameron will present a program on these artists at 4pm on 2/16. A vintage Christmas card by Claude Howell will be given away as a door prize.

Oak Island Beautification Club Business Award
Any business property within the Town of Oak Island or Caswell Beach is eligible. Business owners or residents of the Town of Oak Island or Caswell Beach may submit entries. Each entrant should describe improvements made to the property within the last year and may include supporting photographs. The Awards Committee of the Oak Island Beautification Club will judge nominations and announce the winner on May 25th. The winner will have the Beautification Award displayed on their property.
