Master of Arts in Teaching French or Spanish in U.S. Public SchoolsIntroducing a New Master's Degree Program in Foreign Language TeachingAt few points in the history of US public education has there been a greater demand for teachers of foreign languages who are skilled in the art of teaching language as well as in the ability to incorporate a multicultural sensibility in their teaching. To help meet these special needs, SIT plans to launch a master's program designed specifically to prepare teachers of French (beginning 2004) and Spanish (beginning 2005) in US public schools. Learning as a Student, Becoming a TeacherThe program is designed to help you learn:
Creating a Foreign Language Classroom that Works for You and Your StudentsA dynamic, engaging communications "laboratory" will make it possible for your students to develop their capacity as language proficient, interculturally competent learners. Such a vital classroom will encourage the development and expression of curiosity about those who speak French or Spanish as a first language. It will also help your students better understand themselves in relationship to these languages and the cultures in which they developed. For almost four decades, SIT has educated practitioners who are capable of creating these classrooms. With the combination of a Master's degree and Vermont-issued certification to teach French or Spanish in public schools, SIT graduates are able to begin their classroom teaching careers immediately. |
