On Tuesday, Arnold Motorsports announced that Mike Wallace will be behind the wheel of the No. 50 Dodge at Dover International Speedway on Sunday for the MBNA 400 "A Salute to Heroes" Nextel Cup race. The Gecko will accompany Wallace as GEICO has agreed to be the primary sponsor for the race.
Excited at the opportunity, Wallace said, "This is a great opportunity to get in a Nextel Cup car and be competitive and it makes it more fun with GEICO coming on board to sponsor the car." He continued, "Dover is a fast track and I got a Top 10 there last fall in the Busch Series race, so I am looking forward to this weekend. We will run our No. 4 Biagi Bros./GEICO Busch Series car on Saturday and hopefully a lot of what happens on Saturday will translate into the Cup car on Sunday." He added, "It is a nice opportunity to be in a race that honors America's Heroes."
Wallace made a trip to the Middle East in December 2003 with Robin Williams, Curt Angle, and Leeann Tweeden to visit the military troops serving our country.
This will be GEICO's second Nextel Cup primary sponsorship this season, as they sponsored Derrike Cope in the No. 50 Arnold Motorsports Dodge in the Nextel Open on May 22, 2004, at Lowes Motor Speedway. Cope garnered a Top 10 finish and GEICO is hoping to improve on that this weekend, as Dover International Speedway sits just 100 miles from the GEICO corporate office in Washington, DC.
