We got going at 4:24 on this day of 15 mph winds going to an old favorite bouy. We caught a small mahi on our first pass, then went to jigging for some small aku and ran them live. Before long a mahi came along and ate one and we got it. Then for a while every small aku we put out got eaten by a mahi. It was some great action, only one or two at a time but it was steady. By the time we were ready to go we had 15 of them and lots of small aku and some 10 pound shibi too. We had 4 big bullys that were 30 pounds or more. In the harbor only Chauncy was game to eat an eyeball out of a mahi. These guys did great today, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got going at 4:00 going to my favorite buoy on this day of 25 mph trades. Our first pass we got a 7 pound aku, second pass we took a triple one 34 pound big eye tuna and 2 aku. Then we jigged and got a 28 pound shibi on a clark spoon, and some small shibi. We had our usual baits out there and eventually a mahi came by and Scot baited it up and we got it. When we baited there were some big shibi there and Scot managed to hook them up one at a time. On light line these fish put up a great fight and these guys did a real great job pulling them up. A few more mahi showed up every once in a while, and Scot was quick to bait them up when they came to close. We ended up with 8 big shibi and 6 nice mahi for a real fun day of fishing. These were some fun loving guys to fish with, and they could really drink too. Good going men. In the harbor only I was up to eating an eyeball. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got underway at 4:00 on this day of 25 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. At the buoy we caught some aku and shibi and ran them live, before long a mahi came along and ate it, and we got it. Then we baited and got 2 more mahi on light line, then we went to another bouy. There we baited up some big shibi and got one more mahi for some wild action. Rob got the big workout on most of the shibi with some help from Kane and Brittany. We had 4 on for awhile on one pass. It was a great day. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Scott and Wade Hinkel caught 33 mahi 12 onos and some small aku and shibi for a great day
We got going at 4:00 on this day of 25 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. On the way there we found a pile of rope floating and started catching mahi at 6 am, it was steady action, with lots of big 30 to 40 pound bullys. Wade and Scott got a serious work out early on, and did great. By 9:00 we had to bust out the second bag, cuse the first one was full. We ran out of aku for bait so we left and headed for the buoy, but on the way we found a huge floating roll of netting loaded with mahi and ono. We caught a few mahi and a bunch small onos there, then on to the buoy. There we got some small aku and shibi and a few more mahi too, to end up with 33 mahi and 12 onos for a fantastic day of fishing. Great going guys. Aloha Capt Rusty

It was 4:00 when we got going on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took no trolling hits at the buoy so we caught some aku and ran them live, before long a mahi came up and ate one, for free it took it right off the hook. The next one was not so lucky, we got that one. We lost a few more aku and caught a few more mahi on live akus, it was a one one one thing, no multiples. It was nice to have the wind come back and the mahi come back too. On the way in we found an open school and got 5 out of it to end up with 11 nice ones. In the harbor both Logan and Cory were game to eat mahi eyes, good going men. These folks did great reeling all these fish in, Meghan had the best battle with a mahi on light line no leader, good job. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got going at 5:00 on this day of 15 mph winds going to my favorite buoy. We caught 2 onos on the way to the buoy, both before the sun even came up. At the buoy we caught some aku and shibi and ran them live, no big fish were there to eat them. We went to another buoy and got 4 mahi there, one on lures and 3 on bait. On the way in we took a spearfish hit but it came off. In the harbor only Tom was up for eating an eyeball. These guys were fun to fish with, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got underway at 4:45 on this day of 15 mph variable winds going to my favorite buoy. On the way, before the sun came, up we hooked a marlin that took out 300 yards of line, then started jumping towards the boat at a high speed and broke line, bummer. At the buoy we got a mahi on our first pass trolling, then we caught some baits and ran them live. Then we had a 10 pound shibi chopped in half by an unseen shark. We set up and trolled on out to 27 miles out and found some small floating things but nothing with fish on it. We went back in to another buoy and got nothing there. Back to my favorite buoy and we baited up 2 mahi and had another shibi chopped in half. On the way in we hooked up an ono on the ledge and got it. It was a long day of fishing but we got some. These folks did great, they were fun to fish with. I got no takers when I offered eyeballs. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Newly weds Ali and Seth Launer caught 5 mahi and one 480# marlin and lots of aku and shibi for a fantastic day of fishing
We got going at 4:00 on this day fo15 mph variabe winds going to my next favorite buoy. We hooked a mahi on our first pass at the buoy and got it. Then we caught and ran some small aku live, but no mahi came in to eat them, we got some more aku and shibi and took off outside. At 21 miles we found a rope and a piece of plywood that had a few mahi on it. We took 2 hits trolling and lost one on bait and had to leave it, they did not want to play with us. We went to my favorite buoy and caught some shibi and ran a small dead aku and caught 4 more mahi doing that. Then on our way in 7 miles from the harbor a big blue marlin hooked up on the center pole and started jumping back towards the boat, it kept jumping as it turned and jumped right over the line that was still screaming out going straight back. It then sounded going straight down, by now we have Seth in the chair and there is no way he can get any line back, it is pulling that hard. So we back down as much as we can, and Scot and I take turns helping Seth by hand lineing, that is pulling on the line with gloves to pull the fish up. We suspected that the fish had gotten tail wraped and would come up dead, we can only hope. In about 1 hour Seth had reeled all that 600 yards of line back in and as luck would have it the fish was dead and tail wraped, alright. Seth had already reeled in a lot of fish so this was like the final test of his endurance, and he did great, he never missed a beat. These were some really nice folks to fish with, a real pleasure to have on the boat. Oh and by the way Ali did catch the biggest mahi but then Seth did all the rest. Great going and Seth now has the boat year to date marlin record at 480 pounds. Aloha Capt Rusty

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge  Dave and Traci Teeter, Joe and Cindy Cone caught 4 mahi and some aku and shibi
We got underway at 5:15 on this day of 15 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy. We took a mahi strike on our first pass and got it. Then we caught baits and ran them live, it was not long before a mahi came up and ate one, and we got it. Next aku out and it got another one, fast, this is how we like it. We got 2 more and then they stopped comming around so we headed to another bouy. On the way we had a minor mechanical problem, one engine stopped, so we slowly headed in, but on the way we took several marlin hits that did not stick. We found out that a wire to the key had lost it's connection is why it stopped. These were some good folks to fish with, but not eyeball eaters. Aloha Capt Rusty

We got going at 4:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We took a mahi hit on our first pass and got it, then we caught some small aku and ran them live. A big bully promptly ate one and Scot baited up one more. It was a case of put out a live aku and a mahi would come along and eat it. Before long we had 10 of them. Then we set up and went to another buoy, on the way we hooked up a striper and Ken did a great job of reeling it in. At the bouy we got one more mahi and lost one. These guys did a great job on all these fish, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty
